Go a Little Farther

Text: Mark 14:32, Luke 22:39

Mark 14:32-36 | 35 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him.

Luke 22:39-42 | 39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. 40 On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” 41 He withdrew about a ***stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, *** 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

Mark 10:47- 48 | 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Bartimaeus went a little farther and received a miracle.

The two disciples went a little farther and communed with Jesus.

Luke 24:28-29 | As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.

Luke 19:3-6 | He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. 5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.

Zacchaeus went a little farther and got Jesus' attention.

How many near misses have we had?

Esther 4:14 | 14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

Esther 4:16 | 16 “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day.I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”

Esther went a little farther and got the king's favor.

Will you go a stone's throw farther?
