Where Have You Pitched Your Tent?

Text: Genesis 13

Genesis 13:11-13 | So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company: 12 Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom. 13 Now the people of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.

Ezekiel 16:49-50 | “ ‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. 50 They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

Everyone has a choice of where to pitch their tent.

Now the people of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.

Living in Sodom exposes you to evil (Genesis 19:1-5)

Living in Sodom leads to compromise (Genesis 19:8)

Genesis 19:6-8 | 8 Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.”

God offers a way of escape

The Lord will do what He said He would do (Genesis 19:24-25)

Genesis 19:24-25 | Then the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah—from the LORD out of the heavens. 25 Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, destroying all those living in the cities—and also the vegetation in the land.
